In A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams; wrote Stella states " I couldn't go on believing her story and live with Stanley" (1232). Based from this quote stella believes that believing her sister would destroy hers and stanley's future even though she sees that stanley is abusive and obnoxious with her they are married and she doesn't want anything to be ruined. Basically she has already the “perfect life” and if she loses it she’ll have no other option especially since they are going to have a baby, so what she does is to pretend like if nothing happened. She has no choice than to not believe her sister and live life with a lie and remorse. After Stella’s statement Eunice says “Don’t ever believe it. Life has got to go on. No matter what happens, you’ve got to keep on going” (Eunice 1232), by her saying this it kinda gives a thought of what would happen if Stella does leaves Stanley. Since we have seen what Stanley is capable of doing, do you think if she actually believes her sister and leaves Stanley that he would end up killing both of them?
One example of this quote is climate change. Due to climate change there's two seperate sides in which us humans are on. One side is that climate change is due to us destroying the environment, the other side is that others believe that climate change is due to just mother nature doing her job and us not having nothing to do with it. A lot of people say “we have to do something about our environment in other to save it”. They say that but yet some don't do anything about it and just let it be. The reason why Stella’s quote relates to our perspective to climate change is because while climate change is happening truly because of us, others don't believe that for the reason that they don't want to do anything about it and feel like if we did actually did something about it our lives would be much more harder.
In an article by John D. Sutter he quotes “Even among those of us who are inclined to care about the planet, there's the holy-crap-I-can't-even-deal-with-it factor. It seems too big, too daunting and like so much damage is already being done.” By him stating this quote it shows that he does believes as well that there are actually people that doesn't care about climate change and think that it's too late to do something about it. He also later states that he went to a rally in which people think otherwise in the fact that we do still have time and that we actually have time for a change. What this shows is that people would think a certain way just so they won't any more situations in their lives to think of and waste their time on. Basically they want to live an easier life because if you were to help out and make a change your life would have to turn into a 360 meaning barely use of electricity, no use of cars, etc. So yeah the situation is there but they don't pay attention just so they can live their lives happier and easier.
An example to this is, a beach is full of trash and because of that trash it's making our waters dirty and killing many sea animals. People see that but yet they won't do anything about it because of the amount of work that has go into cleaning it up so they just keep on throwing trash and pretend like if it's fine just so that doesn't intervene with their life, basically making their life easier. Why this relates to Stella’s statement is because stella doesn't want her future life to be crushed by what blanche says to her about Stanley raping her. So what she does is pretend like if nothing happened and getting rid of her, by that it makes her life easier because then she won't have to remember ever of that happening.
